Photographs
Using collage and darkroom-montage, Zeigler’s photographs from this period construct a semiotic index of the urban environment. Over the course of the decade, as she worked in Germany, Illinois, Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, she sustained an interest in contesting dominant cultural attitudes and policies regarding land usage. By the end of the seventies, this area of inquiry included concern for society’s coupling of scientific and technological innovation with unbridled capitalism – considering the harmful implications of this political ethos for urban and non-urban environments.
