RiverLink
RiverLink was a collaborative interdisciplinary exploration of the Fraser Basin, by fourth-year University of British Columbia printmaking students. It was the result of a liaison Zeigler initiated between her printmaking class and Dr. Michael Healey, at the time Director of BEST, and former director of UBC Westwater Research Centre. BEST (the Fraser Basin Ecosystem Study) was a major three-year program of interdisciplinary research on the ecosystem of the Lower Fraser River Basin undertaken by the Westwater Research Centre in collaboration with the Sustainable Development Research Institute and nine other UBC faculties and schools.
The project extended over two terms and involved field trips, discussions, and the creation of artworks culminating in the exhibition of selected works at the AMS Art Gallery on the University of British Columbia campus, and the production of an exhibition catalogue.
The 30-page catalogue included introductory essays by Barbara Zeigler and Dr. Michael Healey, statements by each student particpant, and images of works in the exhibition, photographed by Rob Boss – photography technician for the Department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory. The catalogue was designed by fourth-year student Victor K. T. Wong.
